Simon Monjack found dead just 5 months after his wife, Brittnay Murphy died as a result of "drug intoxication." Initial reports regarding Monjack's death are eerily similar to the reports of Brittany's death. The Los Angeles Times was first to break the tragic news and profound similarities.
Monjack was found dead by his mother in law Sharon Murphy on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 9:24 p.m. Sharon made a frantic call to 911 after finding Monjack unresponsive in the master suite of the Hollywood Hills home in Los Angeles, California where Sharon just five months previous found her daughter. Paramedics arrived on the scene of an "unspecified medical aid request" and attempted to revive Monjack. The attempts were unsuccessful and Monjack was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department is leading an investigation into the cause of Monjack's death. No cause of death has been reported. Sargent Louie Lozano of the LAPD issued the official statement: "We have detectives at the scene. They are conducting their investigation. Once we have further information, we will provide it." A coroner's report into Monjack's cause of death is expected in upcoming weeks.
Monjack's wife, Brittany Murphy, died in December 2009 in an eerily similar set of circumstances. Murphy's mother also found Murphy unresponsive and phoned 911 for emergency assistance. Murphy died despite multiple attempts to revive her. Murphy's cause of death was not announced until February 2010. The Los Angeles County coroner's office determined that Murphy died of pneumonia complicated by iron deficiency, anemia, and "multiple drug intoxication." Murphy's death was deemed "accidental" as Murphy went into cardiac arrest due to "drug intake."
