Women are now able to receive tax breaks for breast feeding supplies as part of an Obama administration initiative to encourage breast feeding, especially among the nation's poor.
In addition to the tax breaks, which encourage the use of breast pumps and other lactation related devices that help facilitate breast feeding for working mothers, Michelle Obama is also focusing on increasing awareness of breast feeding as she tackles America's many health problems, including obesity.
While women do not receive tax breaks simply for breast feeding, supplies that make nursing easier for working mothers are the main target of the new IRS rules. Additionally, WIC and other agencies that target the poor are helping to educate the nation's many mothers on the benefits of nature's food supply.
The Obama administration believes that in the long term, improving our nation's basic health habits will result in a kind of preventive medicine that saves the economy billions of dollars in health related costs.
