tom Cruise is involved in a FBI probe of the Church of Scientology's human trafficking and unpaid labor case. The Boston Herald was first to report that David Miscavige, head of the Church of Scientology and best man in Cruise's wedding to Katie Holmes, is at the center of the probe and Cruise is facing allegations of receiving an "economic benefit" from the church.
The Herald published an exclusive interview with former Scientologist, Crash director, and Oscar winning author Paul Haggis who blew the whistle on the Church and the FBI case regarding Miscaviage and Cruise. Haggis left the church because he "was in a cult for 34 years" and because the Church opposed Proposition 8, a delicate subject as Haggis' daughters are lesbians.
Haggis maintains that Miscaviage is under investigation for not adequately paying church members in exchange for construction work on Scientology grounds and for Miscaviage giving Cruise ownership of an SUV and two motorcycles.
The Church's lawyers and Cruise's representatives have denied the claims. Scientology spokesman Tommy Davis issued a statement which read: "Whatever small economic benefit Mr. Cruise may have received from the assistance of church staff pales in comparison to the benefits the church has received from Mr. Cruise's many years of volunteer efforts for the church."
