Twitter users trying to perform status updates were disappointed this morning, as the micro-blogging service is experiencing an outage.
"We are determining the cause and will provide an update shortly," said a post from the Twitter status page posted at about 9:43 a.m. ET.
Twitter is now blaming the outage on a denial-of-service attack, according to the latest post on their status page. Here's their full update posted at 10:59 a.m. ET.
"We are defending against a denial-of-service attack, and will update status again shortly."
Hackers commonly use a denial of service attack to cause computers to slow down or crash. Hackers launch the attacks by taking over thousands of everyday PCs that don't have adequate anti-virus and other protections installed. Then they redirect all that computing power toward the targeted computer.
