Watch Cubs outfielder Tyler Colvin impaled by a fragment of baseball bat in this video clip.
The Tyler Colvin baseball injury was a fluke incident, with Colvin running from third base while catching a piece of broken baseball bat in his chest.
Thankfully, Tyler Colvin did not suffer any serious injuries, but he was taken to the hospital after the bat piece punctured his chest.
Colvin is in stable condition.
As for the teammate at bat whose bat shattered, Welington Castillo commented, “I feel really bad about it. It wasn’t on purpose, but he’s my teammate. I hope he’s getting better.”
The bat that shattered was made of maple, a material that is sometimes more likely to splinter than harder woods.
