UK Scientists Design Human Embryos Parented by Threesome

UK scientists design human embryos parented by threesomes. Professor Doug Turnbull lead a group of researchers in the United Kingdom to culture embryos from three parents instead of two, in order to better grasp genetic disorders. Turnbull and his team removed nuclei from the sperm and egg of couples suffering from genetic disorders and left behind mitochondria from a donor mother claiming that "what we've done is like changing the battery on a laptop."

The team utilized In-vitro-fertilization (IVF) "leftovers" to perform this feat which tackles the issue of genetic mutation and the resulting, sometimes fatal, disorders which accompany them. The embryos were then destroyed after 8 days as the team would need strict licensing to continue to culture the embryos. The procedure is currently illegal in all IVF facilities. The group CORE, an anti cloning group led by Josephine Quintavalle is outraged. Quintavalle went on the record to claim that "they are creating a child with two mothers. We have to find better ways to cure diseases."
