Twenty eight year old Nathalie Saona was at a Walmart in Wallkill, NY, when she made a special delivery by giving birth to her daughter on a bench before the pharmacy department. According to reports from local newspapers, customers and store workers helped to deliver the newborn on Thursday, March 15, 2013 at around just before emergency response crews arrived. The birth has been confirmed by the manager of the Orange County store.
Saona was in the store shopping with her sister fetching last minute baby items when she went into labor. Though she wasn't due until Sunday, March 17, 2013, Saona reported to CBS New York: "The baby was pushing. I couldn't wait...I was scared." So she laid down on a bench near the pharmacy of the store and a call was made to 911 at 7:45 p.m. Shoppers helped make Saona more comfortable by fetching pillows, blankets and towels from the store and then, with the help of the staff, assisted in the delivery of a healthy baby girl. When the ambulance arrived, mother and daughter were in good condition and transported to Orange regional Hospital.
Saona named the 6 pound, 6 ounce little girl Kourtney.
