Willie Nelson, a seventy seven year old country music singer and songwriter, has been busted for possession of 6 ounces of pot (marijuana). Nelson and three other people were nabbed by the U.S. Border Patrol in Texas early Friday morning when the tour bus they were on stopped at a Sierra Blanca checkpoint. When the door to the bus was opened, officers smelled marijuana and performed a search of the bus. The search turned up 6 ounces of marijuana. Nelson and three others were arrested for possession by Sheriff Arvin West. Nelson claimed possession of the marijuana and the singer was held in police custody until posting a $2,500 dollar U.S. bond.
This is Nelson's second marijuana arrest since 2006. Nelson was arrested on a misdeamnor charge for possession of marijuana and mushrooms in 2006. He was placed on six months probation and had to pay a fine.
Nelson is a lead supporter for the legalization of marijuana. Nelson is also a board member for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. Elaine Schock, Nelson's spokesperson, refused comment regarding her client's latest arrest.
