Today Microsoft announced their new line of smartphones, Windows Phone 7.
The Windows Phone 7 Series will be a new cell phone strategy from Microsoft. Rather than building software for a large number of hardware configurations, Microsoft will be taking a cue from their XBox product and minimizing the range of specs on which the software will run.
In addition to keeping tight control over the hardware specs, Microsoft is building their Windows Phone 7 software to center around social networking, games and video.
Microsoft already has carrier partnerships with the following companies lined up: AT&T, Deutsche Telekom AG, Orange, SFR, Sprint, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, Telstra, T-Mobile USA, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone, while hardware partners include Dell, Garmin-Asus, HTC, HP, LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba and Qualcomm.
