Zach Sobiech, the terminally ill guitarist and "Clouds" singer who inspired us all, passed away on May 20, 2013. The eighteen year old Stillwater, Minnesotan who bravely battled osteosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, blessed the world with an incredibly impressive and optimistic look into the journey from diagnosis at the age of 14 to his death just four years later. Sobiech's strength, despite 10 surgeries, 20 rounds of chemo, and the grim prognosis delivered in May 2012 by his doctors that he only had one year to live, was one which garnered intense admiration and massive media attention.
Sobiech documented his personal struggles in his heartfelt single "Clouds." Upon its Youtube release in December 2012, it earned over 300,000 views. Then the song went viral within weeks and surpassed 3.6 million views in just six short months. Additionally, the song became the number one song on iTunes Legacy in the days following his death and became forever etched in the hearts of millions as Sobiech's living legacy to the world.
Rest in Peace, Zach. Thank you for reminding us all how important it is to live while you can.
