The University of Maryland University College (UMUC) was founded in 1947. It is one of eleven accredited, degree-granting institutions of the the University System of Maryland. The main campus is located in Adelphi, Maryland but the has satellite campuses in Washington DC, the Metropolitan area, Europe and Asia. In addition, (UMUC) also has a virtual campus as the University offers award-winning online classes to students both in the United States, and the world.
UMUC's virtual campus offers more than undergraduate and graduate degree programs and certificates online. Students can choose from over 25 online undergraduate degree programs, and 30 online undergraduate certificates. Almost all of UMUC's on-campus graduate degree programs and certificate programs are available online however these are available in a hydbrid format – a combination of online and on-campus classes. Tuition for undergraduate online programs are $237.00 per credit unit for residents of Maryland, and $499.00 per credit hour for non residents. Tuition for UMUC's graduate online programs are $445.00 per credit hour for residents and $659.00 per credit hour for non residents. Tuition discounts are extended to students who are active members of the military. Furthermore, financial aid in the form of loans, grants and scholarships are in place and availble to eligible students.
UMUC is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. It is governed by the University System of Maryland and is certified by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
