Having head lice is not a common problem today, although one may still have an encounter with this parasite. In the old days, head lice was common in kids, but today, you will hear about only few cases. In case you happen to have problems with head lice, there are some natural remedies that you can try to get rid of them.
The traditional way of removing head lice is to use a very fine-toothed comb. In the East, fine-toothed combs are commonly used specifically for this purpose. Running the comb through your hair over and over again will physically get the lice out. You can then kill the lice by squeezing them with a pair of tweezers or simply flushing them down the toilet. Alternatively, you can use the tweezers to pick out lice from the head one by one, although that can be a tedious task. These methods require repetition over some days, though, in order for you to get all the lice out.
You can also get shampoo that is formulated especially to kill lice. There are different brands to choose from - you just need to ask the pharmacists for specific information. Make sure that you follow the instructions in the packaging so as to get the best results.
Alternatively, you can choose a home remedy that has been proven effective: using mayonnaise or petroleum jelly to smother the lice. What you need to do is to generously apply mayonnaise or petroleum jelly that is heated to room temperature on your hair. Cover this with a thick towel and leave it on overnight. In the morning, wash your hair thoroughly, making sure all the goo is removed. Repeat as often as necessary.
