What Is Baptism?

According to Google, Baptism is a Christian sacrament signifying spiritual cleansing and rebirth. The Word Baptism comes from the greek word Baptizo which literally means immersion. Some common uses of this word in greek literature include Baptism by Fire, or being consumed by Fire. The Early Christian Church used this word when describing a symbolic washing away of sins, and a joining of members to the Early Church. Baptism has been practiced for thousands of years even before the Early Church by Greek and Jewish sects of mainstream Hebrew and Pagan Religions. There is much religious debate whether baptism is done by 'sprinkling' or by immersion.
