Having clogged arteries is a serious problem as they can eventually result in a heart attack, even death. While finding out that you have clogged arteries can be a wake up call, it does not mean that you are certain to have a heart attack. Depending on the extent of your condition, there are things that you can do to stop the situation from getting worse.
That’s the good news. The not-so-good news is that you have to be willing to make major changes in your lifestyle. Then again, that is not such a bad deal as compared to facing a higher risk of getting a heart attack, right?
So what exactly do you need to do?
Start with getting more exercise. If you live a completely sedentary lifestyle, then any form of exercise will do you much good. You have to do this with your doctor’s supervision, however. In general, about 30 minutes of moderate exercise three to four times a week should be fine.
Skip the saturated fat and cholesterol. This is a general principle that everyone would be wise to follow, but if you already have clogged arteries, it is imperative that your saturated fat intake is drastically lessened. You will now have to read the labels of the food items that you purchase so that you know exactly how much saturated fat and cholesterol they contain.
Try alternative medicine. Proponents of alternative medicine claim that certain kinds of food can help unclog arteries or prevent clogged arteries. While they may not be proven scientifically, it will not hurt.
