What Is Facial Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional treatment that originates from Asia. This method of treatment makes use of tiny needles that are inserted into points in the body and is meant to unblock the flow of blood and energy. Facial acupuncture is merely a specific form of acupuncture with the specific goal of smoothing away the wrinkles in the facial area.

The rationale behind the use of facial acupuncture to lessen the wrinkles in the face is that the insertion of the needles can loosen up the muscles. Tight muscles in the face cause the skin to wrinkle in some places and when these muscles are loosened, the wrinkles should disappear, or at least become less prominent. Just like any other form of acupuncture, facial acupuncture should only be done by licensed practitioners.

While facial acupuncture focuses on loosening up the muscles of the face, there are also other areas which can be addressed during a therapy. For example, there are pressure points which are said to help with skin hydration and overall skin health. During a facial acupuncture session, these other pressure points may also be addressed to help the facial skin regain its youthful state. The best results are achieved by undergoing several sessions of facial acupuncture. It is not unusual, however, for patients to see effects even after only having one session.

Facial acupuncture is considered to be safe and is a viable alternative to other forms of facial treatments such as face lifts and Botox injections. As such, you may want to consider acupuncture instead of surgical procedures or medication.
