What Is Linguistics ?

Linguistics addresses the fundamental issues of what language is and how it relates to the other human faculties. To answer these questions, linguists consider language as a cultural phenomenon and try to determine what is unique in the language, what is universal, how language is acquired, and how it changes.

Linguistics is, therefore, one of the cognitive sciences, but also provides a link between the humanities and social sciences and education and science of hearing and speech.
