What Is a Valve?

A valve is a device that has been made as a way to control the flow of gases, liquids or slurries. Valves, also known as regulators, are found in most many applications both industrial and domestic. Valves come in various designs depending on what it is going to be used for. It is also manufactured in many different sizes from small to gigantic ones. Valves also come in different complexities. There are simple valves and there are those that are very complex in the design. Valves are also one of the earliest mechanical designs. In fact, valves have been used by many different cultures for thousands of years.

Valves have both a reference to mechanics and to the human anatomy. For example, the valves that are found in the body regulate the flow of blood, oxygen and other body fluids. One of the most important valves in the body is the heart valve, which works alongside the heart to pump blood throughout the body.

Mechanical valves have many different types and permutations and you can even find many valves that is used on a daily basis. The most basic valve is called the gate valve, which only has two position: open and closed. A globe valve is a little more complicated, because it controls not only the flow of liquid but also the amount that goes through. An example of a globe valve are the taps inside the house. The taps allow a person to control when water goes out and the amount in which it flows.
