Many great animations for children in Japan are made by a prominent and excellent director and animator named Hayao Miyazaki. His films were famous in Japan and are now gaining momentum across the globe with its English dubbed versions. He is the director and principal illustrator of many children movies such as Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Porko Roso and many others. The theme of his movies is often about women with exceptionally strong characters who are themselves empowered and able to make a difference in their society. His movies are also known to have an environmental theme as well as against fascism. Some of his movies are not the typical ones with a protagonist and a villain, instead those movies portrays characters that children should have such as responsibility, earth-friendly, respect and love for parent among others.
Miyazaki was born in the wake of the World War II. His mother has suffered from tuberculosis for eight years. Despite her mother’s condition, she never retreated from any struggle. Her mother continued her good reading habit which inspired Miyazake’s curiosity in literatures. His mother was also known to have a strong will to speak and express her opinions. It was believed that Miyazaki’s mother is his model from which he based the characters of his female leads. The release of the English versions of his movies were greatly appreciated by many audiences around the world both children and adults.
